Buchanan

Immigrant William Buchanan (died 1817); came from Ireland about 1802; wife Jane; lived in Fermanagh Township, Mifflin County, PA as early as 1808. Later lived in Milford Township.  These areas are now Juniata County, PA.

1. William Buchanan remained in Pennsylvania, living in the Black Log Valley (Lack Township) of Juniata County; died 1880; wife Mary Stogdill.

William J. Buchanan (1885-1947) married Nannie Henderson

2. Alexander Buchanan; Although I do not have definite proof, I believe this to be the same Alexander who moved to Ohio and then to Iowa. Date of birth: May 19, 1795. Wife: Margaret Elizabeth Love. Died January 7, 1862 in Muscatine County, Iowa. This Alexander had a brother Evans who was residing with daughter of Alexander, Margaret Hobbs, in the 1880 Linn County, Iowa Census.

3. Evans R. Buchanan; I believe this to be the same Evans Buchanan who moved to Iowa and worked as a farmer. He appeared in the 1850 Benton County, Iowa census with the Penrose family. From 1860-1880 he was listed in the Linn County, Iowa Census. He died June 16, 1883 and was buried in Iowa.

4. John Buchanan; I believe this is the same John Buchanan listed as a Stone Mason in tax and census records. He resided in Tuscarora Township, Juniata County, PA in the 1850-60 Censuses. In the 1870 Census, he is residing in Paterson Borough, Juniata County, PA. His wife is listed as Hannah.
