The
Carlisle Peace College is sponsoring a Campaign to let the
President know that we will hold him and his Administration personally
responsible for the deaths of tens, if not hundreds, of thousands of
innocent Iraqi civilians if he attacks Iraq. Such an attack, without
Security Council approval, would clearly be in violation of the UN
Charter and of the Geneva Conventions. A similar letter has been
signed by 100 law professors and sent to the President by the Center
for Constitutional Rights, see www.ccr-ny.org.

People
the world over are hungry for peace. If peace is what people want, why
not educate them about how to get it?
The Carlisle Peace College was founded as a a direct response to the
presence of the Army War College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. The Carlisle
Peace College held its first weekend conclave in November of 2001. Speakers
from Voices in the Wilderness, Women in Black, Nonviolent Peace Force,
Israeli peace activists and faith-based organizations like Christian
Peacemaker Teams and Catholic Workers met in Carlisle, Pennsylvania
with members of church congregations and community peace activists to
share experiences gathered from intervention and peacemaking in conflict
situations.
The Carlisle Peace College has continued from that time
as an alliance of individuals and organizations from central Pennsylvania
working together to build a world of peace with justice. Details about
public peace vigils and other CPC sponsored meetings, seminars and events
can be found on the Calendar.
The Carlisle Peace College curriculum is presented as
a "school without walls." Many articles, books, videotapes,
and links to other peace organizations can be found on our website.
These resources, plus our Speakers Bureau, are provided to help you
raise your awareness about vital peace issues; organize your own peace
and justice seminars; and become strong activists in governmental decision
making.
Addressing the root causes of war, especially economic
injustice and conflicts over ownership and control of oil, land and
other natural resources, is one important focus of our peace work. Several
of us are currently working to engage officers, professors, and interns
at the Army War College and other public institutions in discussions
concerning US foreign policy, globalization and the so-called "neo-liberal
economics agenda."
The Carlisle Peace College stands as a part of a global
movement of peacemakers engaged in nonviolent direct action to end oppression
and promote social, economic and environmental justice. We advocate:
Non-violent
approaches to conflict resolution The rule of law in resolving
disputes Local to global economic
justice Public awareness of responsibility
for official violence Community involvement
in public policy Policies for disarmament
and decreasing military spending The establishment of
a US Department of Peace.
