Jim Merkel joined 3WS during it's WPEZ-FM
days. He was part of the original 3WS line-up handling the 7 - midnight
shift. After moving to middays, Jim answered the call and became part of
the 3WS Morning Zoo, joining Gary Dickson on March 21, 1988. (Jim replaced
Andrea Lively who left for WHLY in Orlando). At the time, Diane Sutter,
3WS Vice President and general manager would not say Merkel's appointment
was permanent. "The morning show is still evolving ... There are still
more pieces to be put in to the puzzle." More than 20 years later Jim has
more thn survived the morning zoo. He is one the longest continuously tenured
morning man in Pittsburgh radio history. From Merkel & Dickson to Merkel
& Hansen, to Merkel & Cris. Merkel in the Morning is still waking
up and entertaining Pittsburgh. Jim has been at WPEZ, then 3WS for 30 years.

Jim came to 3WS after stops at WMBA-AM in
Ambridge and the former WJOI-FM in Pittsburgh. In addition to his morning
gig at 3WS, Jim Merkel has been one of the top voice over artists in America
for over 25 years.
