Bill Burns will always be known as the long-time news anchor on KDKA-TV. Before moving on to television, Bill began his broadcasting career on KQV radio in 1946 after returning from World War II with the Purple Heart. Bill remained at KQV until July 1953 when he went to the then WDTV-TV 3 to anchor the 6 o'clock news. Bill remained at KDKA-TV until his retirement on January 3, 1989. |
Bill Burns died of congestive heart failure brought on by pneumonia on Tuesday, September 16, 1997 at the age of 84.
