HIT PARADE
EXTRA
March 23 - March 29, 1971The Steel City has a new Number One record this week. It's the ballad by Car Stevens, WILD WORLD. You first head the song on KQV a few months ago when it was played from the album, "Tea For The Tillerman". The other records in this week's top ten are: WHAT'S GOING ON (Marvin Gaye) ... ME & BOBBY McGEE (Janis Joplin) ... TEMPTATION EYES (The Grassroots) ... LOVE STORY (Andy Williams and Henry Mancini) ... WHAT IS LIFE? (George Harrison) ... LOVE'S LINES, ANGLES AND RHYMES (The Fifth Dimension) ... TIMOTHY (The Buoys) ... HELP ME MAKE IT THROUGH THE NIGHT (Sammi Smith) ... and JUST MY IMAGINATION (The Temptations). ******* Ever since we've been playing the song. "Apple Scruffs" from George Harrison album (What Is Life?) we've received many phone calls at KQV asking, "What is an Apple Scruff?" A little checking with London produced the answer. An Apple Scruff is a kidd (a scruff) that hangs around Apple Records (the Beatles' label) wating for an autograph.Four new records have been added to the KQV Hit Parade. They are: POWER TO THE PEOPLE (John Lennon) ... CHICK-A-BOOM (Daddy Dewdrop) ... I LOVE YOU FOR ALL SEASONS (Fuzz) ... and, TOAST AND MARMALADE (Tin Tin). ******* Many Canadian groups and singers are beginning to appear on records here in the states. Canadian radio stations are now required , by law, to play a specific number of Canadian records per hour. As a result, more Canadian singers are getting ehard on the radio and requests and record sales are starting that way. Once a hit is started in Montreal or Toronto, it's a quick trip into the Northern states of our country. Proof - KQV is playing 4 Canadian records !******* The KQV 24-Hour Request Line (333-9966) was busy as usual last week. Here are Pittsburgh's most - requested songs: WILD WORLD (Cat Stevens) ... JOY TO THE WORLD (3 Dog Night) ... and, STAY AWHILE (The Bells)
