HIT PARADE
EXTRA
March 30 - April 5, 1971The KQV Hit Parade has it's Number One record repeating for a second week - WILD WORLD (Cat Stevens). The other 9 songs on the top ten this week are: WHAT'S GOING ON (Marvin Gaye) ... ANOTHER DAY (Paul McCartney) ... LOVE'S LINES, ANGLES AND RHYMES (The Fifth Dimension) ... WHAT IS LIFE? (George Harrison) ... ME & BOBBY McGEE (Janis Joplin) ... PUT YOUR HAND IN THE HAND (Ocean) ... HELP ME MAKE IT THROUGH THE NIGHT (Sammi Smith) ... EIGHTEEN (Alice Cooper) ... and, I DON'T BLAME YOU AT ALL (Smokey & The Miracles). ******* While the Beatles were still together as a group, the individual personalities of George, Paul, John and Ringo were quite hidden behind the image of the group itself. But now that each of them is on his own, doing his own thing, the real Beatle personalities are bubbling to the surface. Here's a look at each Beatle showing, what he's done since the group split up, and a quick description of the type of person each seems to be ... based upon listening to his work:Ringo - Has done several movies and recorded the album, "Sentimental Journey" (a tongue-in-cheek revival of standards) and "Beaucoups of Blues" (a country & Western collection). We think the FUN that was the Beatles is what Ringo is all about.
PAUL - Has instituted a suit to legally break up the group, and has recorded an album, "McCartney" with his wife, (Linda) and a new single, "Another Day". The ATTRACTION and WARMTH that drew you to the Beatles is what we think Paul is about GEORGE - Has completed a major, 3 - record album, "All Things Must Pass", from which two hit singles have come. It appears that George was the MUSICAL GENIUS that was the Beatles.
JOHN - Has released several albums including his most recent, "John Lennon/ Plastic Ono Band", and a new single, "Power To The People". He's the ex-Beatle that gets the headlines. What was John to the Beatles? Probably the INVENTIVE SPIRIT and CREATIVE ENERGY that made their contributions so important important to the history of music.
******* The Jackson Five has a new record on Hit Parade: NEVER CAN SAY GOODBYE. Other new songs you'll hear on the "Big 14": A DOG NAMED BOO (Lobo) ... sweet & innocent (Donny Osmond of the Osmond Brothers) ... and TREAT HER LIKE A LADY (Cornelius Brothers.)
