On Tuesday, August 23, 1960,
it was KQV Appreciation Day at West View Park. The KQV deejays were on
hand. Dave Scott, Henry DaBecco, Johnny McKinney, Larry Aiken, Rod Roddy
& Dick Drury. A Gigantic Stage Show at 8 PM featured big names
like Bobby Vee, Dion & The Belmonts and many others. These ads
were found in the Pittsburgh Papers on August 19 & 22, 1960.

A free three hour rock and roll
show featuring headliner Frankie Avalon and 17 recording artist highlights
the 2nd annual KQV Appreciation Day in West View Park Thursday. Educational
television station WQED will televise while KQV disc jockeys broadcast
the daily programming from the park's radio tower. A free record dance
is also featured from 1 to 4 in the afternoon.

KQV brought Steve Miller and
Gravel to the Syria Mosque on October 22, 1972, Cheech & Chong to the
Mosque on October 29, and Yes to the Civic Arena on November 7, 1972.
November 29, 1972, The KQV Thanksgiving
Shower of Stars with Steppenwolf, The Turtles, The Grass Roots and more
at the Civic Arena.
KQV concerts in 1973 included
Loggins & Messina with Jim Croce at the Syria Mosque on March 13, Steven
Stills and Manassas at the Civic Arena on March 27th, and Alice Cooper
at the Civic Arena on April 6th.
Summertime 1973 featured Civic
Arena concerts starring Deep Purple on May 31, and The Temptations on June
9.
On August 7, 1973, The Osmonds
headlined a Civic Arena Concert.
Other August, 1973 Civic Arena
concerts included Engelbert Humperdinck on August 8, Roberta Flack on August
18, and the return of Sonny & Cher on August 30th.
In 1974, KQV became 14K. On
April 20th Sha Na Na played the Syria Mosque.
On July 4, 1974, 14K Musicradio
presented the DeFranco Family featuring Tony DeFranco performed at the
Syria Mosque. |
